How do you brand yourself online?
Or maybe a better question is “do you brand yourself online?”
But the first question I am going to look at is “should you brand yourself online?”
The answer may surprise you, it depends.
I have been very successful with affiliate marketing over the last two years and have done it anonymously.
Would I have done better if I branded myself?
Hard to say, but I did brand some interesting, alter ego characters.
And the reason I did that was because I did not want to mix my real life with my online one.
I think that is a fair reason.
However, if your primary business model is online network marketing, I will step out on a limb here and state emphatically that to be successful, and I mean really successful, you will need to brand yourself.
Think about this.
In the real world you brand yourself everyday with your family, with your friends, and with your co-workers.
Believe it or not but you do have a brand with them.
It is no different online.
You probably heard this before but people join people, not opportunities.
You may be thinking “I do not have an online brand?”.
And you are probably right.
Which means you need to build it. And it is not as hard as you think.
So, where do you start?
It starts with a self hosted blog, your nerve center.
This is where people will get to know you and you get to shine.
Many of my friends who read this blog know the power of personal branding.
They all have nerve centers and they are seeing new successes everyday.
However, if you do not have your own personal nerve center blog I have a great deal for you today.
| Just fill out the big yellow form in the top right and I will give you a free, self hosted WordPress blog. I will also build up your “nerve center” skills by putting you through a 7 day boot camp. At the end of those 7 days you will have a fully functional, optimized, personal branding machine. |
I do have one condition though, and it involves being honest with yourself.
Do you have a powerful reason for owning your own business?
In my last blog post I talked about having a powerful “Why” when starting a home business.
If you haven’t seen the video yet I suggest you click this link “Why start a home business” and then fill out the form if you have some strong reasons.
For all of my friends who understand the importance of branding yourself Please do comment below on why you think having your own nerve center is important to your branding.
For the rest of you, just fill out the form to get started.

This is awesome.
When I decided to study attraction marketing and quit using the old school methods, I knew branding yourself through a nerve center was the way to go.
I hit it hard for 6 months and if you search for any of my content whether it is better networker, ezine articles, social media, you tube, they all point back to the same place…

Hey Peter,
In the Network Marketing industry no matter online or off you have to be branding yourself as a true leader if you want people to follow you and join you in business. That is the reason people sign up with you, because you are either a leader, or you have a powerful marketing system that gets results. And in my opinion, true leaders have both of those things.

Hey Peter, excellent discussion you’ve got going on here.
Might as well chime in
I think it’s completely okay if you were to be anonymous or even had an alter ego with some ventures. Not in a deceitful way but in a way that it projects the ideal result of what you’re marketing.
On the flipside I believe that personal branding can go a long way especially when others begin to buzz your name. It’s such a great feeling when people remember you – feels like you’ve truly made an impact.
When you build that personal brand, your next projects will go over even easier because you’ve already built authority and loyalty!

#57 by Oliver Tausend on July 6, 2010 - 10:07 am
Hi Peter,
you are absolutely right that a self-hosted blog is the nerve center of a home-based business. The only downside I see is that it takes a lot of time to start it and to provide fresh content on a regular basis. Are two posts per week enough ? I don’t think so – especially at the beginning. And you need your social accounts anyway to share your stuff. So why not building up nice and thorough profiles on Facebook and Twitter first – especially when people are short on time – and then as soon as everything runs smoothly to start blogging ? If you think I’m mistaken, just let me know. Keep up your great work.
Take care
Oliver

Actually that is what I did first, created my social accounts, and you can certainly brand yourself just with social accounts. Facebook has all the tools you need from using video to notes to forming your own group and fan page.
The only downside is that you do not control Facebook and all of your hard work could disappear over night.

I suppose the challenge for someone who is starting out with no discernible recognition, to stand out from the noise and attract a following. Hi Peter,
Great offer for people here! You are right when it comes to network marketing specifically then branding yourself is part of the formula required for success.
Developing a personal brand is probably a lot more challenging than people understand. It has nothing to do with business. It’s all about knowing who you are on many different levels and then being courageous enough to express that uniqueness and build your business around it. It can take a whole lot longer than people expect.

Hi Peter,
I knew about the importance of branding for years. However, it took on a whole new meaning when I started my blog, or “nerve center.” People often underestimate the importance of having “one central point” to send people to to learn more about ‘THEM’.
It is way more important to build “YOU.INC” then it is to promote your opportunity. Your company can be gone tomorrow, (or maybe you change opportunities) but YOU.INC will be around to start over.
Great topic, Peter! Thanks for sharing!
