How to Attract your Niche to your Blog – Day 1 of 5

Yesterday, Sunday, I tried to create a post on redesigning my front page to attract my chosen niche to this blog.

It proved to be too long and too confusing, so I decided to break it up into five parts.

Part 1 – Overview: Goals and Tools

Make sure you click the Full Screen icon in the bottom right of the video after you start to play, otherwise you are not going to be able to see what I am doing.

There are so many things you can do to attract people to your site, especially those interested. It does deal with content, the design, and also who you reach through what mediums you choose (social networks, videos, newsletters, etc).

The great thing is that you can always revamp anytime. Static pages are really not as valuable as your blog post pages. Those are what are within your feeds, especially in terms of WordPress posts and pages. So, if you have an area you still want in your feed, you can always (especially if your theme is design with the WP 3.0+ menu system), you can easily put that post as a targeted page…. or an image somewhere prominent to hopefully attract and convert your visitors./

That is amazing for me to follow from day 1 of creating or adjusting your blog.

This came at the time when I must expand some more content. Like making more pages and having only certain items on the side bar. Something like what I am giving for free this month….

I thank you for all the fantastic ideas you have empowered my imagination with.

    Hey Peter,

I think you really hit a whole list of goodies to do for your blog. But I think the most important thing is the identification of your niche.

By far, I think that is the most important thing about any website and clear identification.

I can’t wait to see the changes as they happen.

I agree with Dereck and excellent video by the way Peter.

The identification of a niche is very important. When a website is broad in terms of the niches it covers, it is difficult to break each niche down into groups, which is what I am finding out.

    Hi Peter,

Very interesting article and video, very interesting facts. Indeed, I think too that the 1st step is overviewing the goals and the tools, ‘where’ do you want to get somewhere and ‘how’ will you get there, this would be translation. It is very important to know what you are working for and looking for, you will risk to get demotivated and stop working, also, you would not know where to get in a… place you don’t know, since you don’t even know where to go. That’s why it is very important to know. Keep up the good work and thanks for sharing this excellent article!

    Peter,

I did the same thing changing my home page to a static page. I was told by an SEO guy that having a static page keeps the search engine bots crawling your site.

If your blog is your home page and if you have another the link, the search engine bot will leave your site and you will not get the search engine ‘love’ your blog deserves.

    Peter,
Thanks for sharing your thought process on improving your front page. We all need to rethink/revise our blogsites from time to time. What I do is have a static homepage that is more marketing and then a “/blog” page for my blog homepage. Not sure if that’s best or not AND, I’m in process of redesigning as well. I agree, it’s ALL about giving your market what they want and making it simple for them to see it.

      Hey Liz

Yes there is, I want to target that page to my niche and right now posting excerpts from my blog posts do not achieve that.

By having a static page I will have more control over the keyword phrases I target.
