I am redesigning my front page to attract my chosen niche to this blog.
For me, this is important.
When someone finds my front page in the search engines I want to deliver exactly what they are looking for.
No surprises.
No hitting them with ads to divert their attention.
If they come to my page and decide to leave so be it, I did not do my job.
I may add an exit pop-up with a last ditch message, but I will save that for the end.
I need to have a message that compels them to find out more about what I have to offer.
Which means I need to do some really good keyword research.
But first up, a video on how to structure my first page.
I am going to create a static page that will be optimized for my target niche and keywords.
Make sure you click the Full Screen icon in the bottom right of the video after you start to play, otherwise you are not going to be able to see what I am doing.
People have asked me “Why a Static Page” and my best answer is that it gives me 100% control to target my niche.
My front page will attract my niche and lead them via links to my blog posts that may provide solutions to what they are looking for.
My blogs posts will be even more targeted to sub-niches.
That is my goal.
In the next video I show you how to specify which widgets will show up in your sidebar depending on which page you are on.
I think that is enough for Day 2.
Having the right structure in place is key.
You might have guessed that I am a minimalist when it comes to my blog.
Now that the structure is getting into shape I need to find keywords my niche is typing into the search engines everyday looking for the solution I offer.
That is not easy.
I am trying to attract a specific demographic who are looking for a solution to their cash flow problems in retirement.
But I am working on it.
Any suggestions?

Hello, Peter. You have a gift of teaching in a way that is easy to understand. I like the minimalist look, and am finding out, more and more, that less is more. I also am convinced of the need to have a specific structure to my blog and to set up categories to very targeted keywords that assist my readers and are directly related to my main keyword that the home page is based on.

Peter,
This is fantastic video presentation on stage 2. I love how your traveling through setting up your home page, and giving your viewers an overview for it’s purpose.
You are a master at setting the tempo for learning and then setting seeds into our conscious, on getting more for our revenue stream.
This is truly getting more than on need skill. Your showing all of your viewers each stage of creating a site. Also, getting those who fit the niche, on board. Wonderful presentation.
I am really getting a refresher course on my sites pages, and updating them as I travel with you.
I am looking forward in listening to day 3.

Peter,
I love it! I’m following your posts and I love the work you are doing with your blog.
There are some really good notes that I think I can take from this entire process.
I personally know I need to have a picture of myself on my website, you have that one on me.
Other than that, I think you’re doing a great job on helping your target market.
Keep up the good work, and I’ll be back!

Hello Peter,
Second visit after I checked your attract niche blog day 1.
I have to say I like the look of your site. I like that on the home page, you have removed the email gathering box leaving it for inside pages. I have found that some of the sites with a very prominent email box, and particularly those with the timed javascript motored box are too obvious for my liking.
I am too struggling with finding the right balance on my own site.
I will be back for the next lesson soon,
Thank you!
Keep the Smiles,
Stevie

Hi Peter,
Nice post.I hate when I visit a website and the first thing that one gets is the pop-up trying to sell products.i agree that the website owners are trying to make some money by affiliate marketing or maybe by anything else but at least they should wait for the person to leave and can promote their products at the end.

Great job on the videos…
Day 2 was very informative and I like what you are accomplishing with your blog structure.
This will help a lot of people who would like to clean up their blog and be able to optimize for their niche and have a more efficient blog.
I am familiar with some of the plugins, so I appreciate the lesson on how to effectively use all these plugins together.
Keep optimizing for those Zoomers and I look forward to the rest of the series and the end product.

Hi Peter,
You’ve given me another target to shoot for! I’ve seen static pages, but didn’t have a clue how they were set up. Your blog was a good overview. It went a little fast for me, though, and I’d definitely have to have more help before implementing. If I had more time I’d look at your videos several times and understand them better. But even at that, thanks for a glimpse of what’s possible!

Hi Peter,
I really like this approach for so many reasons. It not only works with the optimization, but if I set my blog up using a static page as you’ve shown, then it will allow me to have a platform that is richer in content and will allow room for expansion. This allows you to set up a static page specifically targeted to niche. Brilliant! It also gets rid of the clutter and noise.
I’m moving on to the next one! Thanks.

Hey Peter,
I have played around with a static page because I wanted a landing page that was an introduction of sorts, and if visitors left that was fine. But I couldn’t get it right. I’m going to go back and see if I can’t change it. Got a little lost on the widget video. I’ll have to play it again. Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge!

Paving the way and spelling it out very carefully. Like you, I have gotten clearer on my niche, and now it is important to make it more clear for those who are looking and those who are arriving. Peter,
Very interesting. Thanks for sharing your process as you are doing it. I have a question that maybe you can answer. How do I make my blogs only show up as shortened, first few sentences, with a link at the bottom to click on to read more. Is that something that I can change easily? Right now, my entire blogs appear on my home page at http://www.CreateHealingAndLoveNow.com/blog.

In your Dashboard you will see Settings and under Settings you will see Reading, click on that and you will see the settings for Full text or Summary.
If you select Summary then, depending on the theme, it may be just the first few lines of the post or it may use the Excerpt you typed in while creating the post.

Hi Peter, this is my first time to your blog, so I can’t comment on whether it’s improved or not:-) There are different “schools of thought” for the Landing page of a website aren’t there?
I believe that keyword research is the most important thing to do first, if you want your site seen by people searching on your particular niche.
Look forward to more of your blog posts. Have a fun weekend! Julieanne

Hi Peter,
Interesting perspective. I have actually thought about having a static home page as well, but it would be the most current blog post. Hopefully I keep all my blog posts of interest to my niche.
I also have my opt in at the bottom of the page with a slight delay so it’s not “in your face” however, my opt in offer is for something my target niche would be interested in, so I think that’s fine.
I will definitely consider all your points because they do make sense! Appreciate your tips and strategies, for sure!

Definitely Diligent Peter!
The effort you’re putting in here will surely pay off. I’ve had vague ideas of doing something similar with a static front page, so watching how you’re going through this process is especially interesting.
The whole idea of having a niche targeted front page is brilliant, not least because you can SEO it for your principle keywords.
As to your question… I guess the answer is to identify where this demographic is hanging out online (I’m not sure exactly where that would be). Alternatively, make sure your keywords, headlines and ads are powerfully targeted towards those people. PPC Ads on Facebook will allow you to target certain age groups and geographical areas, if you have a budget for that.
Good luck, loving this series!
