From recession to a new world economy, where to invest your money.

invest your money

When I was a teenager I was a big fan of science fiction, still am.

I loved the Dune series by Frank Hebert. I think the politics intrigued me the most.

Space travel was only possible due to a commodity, the spice melange from the planet Arrakis. They had a monopoly. The Spacing Guild navigators would consume the spice so that they could achieve heightened awareness and prescience to be able to plot a safe course through space.

Imagine a huge space craft hitting a small rock traveling at unimaginable speeds.

Also imagine when they realized spice was actually worm shit, and we are talking about some pretty big worms here.

When I was a kid watching Star Trek I would always think “what would happen if they hit something at warp speed?”. I came to the conclusion that we really could not travel at such high speeds even if it was physically possible.

We haven’t even figured out yet how to prevent birds from getting into airplane engines so it would seem rather an enormous task to prevent a small pebble from getting in our way as we trek across the galaxy.

Recently I read where the Space Station crew had to seek shelter in their capsule when “space junk” posed a dangerous situation.

Think about it.

In a very short period of time for man to be in space we have already littered it so much that space travel is now even more dangerous due to this junk. Given the vastness of space we can actually run into this junk, or more likely have the junk run into us.

So what does this have to do with investing your money?

Well, watch the news for any companies who develop “space junk” removal technology.

Honestly, we are all going to be stuck here unless someone does.

If you are looking for a more practical investment then look at companies that specialize in cleanup technology because trust me, more and more ecology disasters are in our future.

Well this is different. I’ve never heard of some of the things you talked about here, but it’s interesting.

    I loved Dune too.

And was always interested in the mysterious Spice. “Travelling, without moving…” seems rather psychedelic!

Great to read an article with a different angle, and I definitely agree. Sustainability and ‘green’ business is slowly gathering momentum and will certainly attract more investment over the coming years.

And let’s hope the investment is not too late. It’s starting to get crowded down here on Earth.

      Hey Jym

When I first read Dune many many years ago it made me realize how stupid we are in that we do not see the forest for the trees.

and yes, let’s hope it is not too late

    Hi Peter,

what I like especially about your post is that you’re always offering something new, new aspects or points of view or whole new ideas. If I think further about the subject of space junk I wonder who takes care of all the immaterial junk out there in the ether – bad vibrations, negative thoughts and energy and all that good stuff. A business idea in intself ?

    Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

    Take care

Wow…I had no idea…I’m a huge Sci Fi fan as well!

The highlight from my TV/Film career was working as a boom operator on the set of Star Trek: TNG. Although some may not think that lying under the main control panel of a shuttlecraft so your boom mic wasn’t in the shot, or hanging out in the Holodeck with Q was fun…I sure did!

Great article by the way. :)

    Live long and prosper,

Karen, I would consider that great fun :)

Hanging out with Q was cool, but for me it would have been to hang out with Deanna :)

Peter I think you are dead on here. You even see mlm companies going green in form or another. We are in a big ole mess there is much security in being with an entity that can clean some of up in one way or another.

It is not easy to predict the future, but if one looks at the trends one can guess at what new businesses will be needed in the future

Interesting post, would have to agree their is definitely a future out there for anyone in clean up tech, cause one thing’s for sure , there will always be a need for it. By the way read Dune too and loved it-kept hearing it compared to Lord Of The Rings and actually liked it almost as much . Hopefully someday soon someone will finally make a movie on it that does the book justice.
